Scott joined Keoghs in 2009. He has experience of dealing with a wide range of claims which include breach of contract, negligence, nuisance, product liability, and motor liability. Scott advises household, commercial and motor insurers on policy coverage disputes, liability claims and recovery actions. Scott leads a small team providing complex motor indemnity advice to insurer clients engaged in disputes with their policyholders, claimants, other insurers and the MIB. Scott’s experience in this area includes handling complaints referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Scott is regularly instructed to advise insurers in cases where they have a potential liability as RTA insurer or Article 75 insurer including protecting insurers’ rights of recovery.
Scott also specialises in disputes where there are a number of insurers potentially liable in relation to an incident and where it is unclear which insurer or insurers ought to be dealing. Over the last several years, Scott has assisted Matthew Rogers on complex and high value commercial property, household and subrogated recovery claims including claims in the TCC division of the High Court. Scott’s experience in this area includes assisting on £ multi-million claims arising out of a large fire in a warehouse, a gas explosion, a serious flood and food poisoning outbreaks, all of which received media attention.
Scott regularly reports on changes in the law which affect the market particularly the motor insurance market. He led the firm’s reporting of the changes brought about by the Deregulation Act 2015 and has advised insurers in respect of the changes. Scott also regularly delivers training seminars to insurer clients on a variety of topics including liability and recoveries associated with property damage.
